Today's jobs were to hand cut greens, cut aprons, cut winter greens, change holes, move tee markers, divot tees, rake all bunkers then work on 9th tee. On the tee we broke up the surface with our harrow/levelling bar this will allow us to move material from the high areas to the low areas and also we dug the trench for moving the sprinkler head

At last a day with no rain

Both bunkers at 17th are finished and are G.U.R till start of next season
Next winter project is to level the 9th yellow tee and re-position the sprinkler head

First job was to stripe off the old turf and then take heights of existing tee then set our new height that we require

The sprinkler head will be re-positioned 3metres back to the rear edge of tee which will allow us to reduce the turn of the head to 180 degrees which should save us water, plus the sprinkler head is off the playing surface which won't interfere with aeration work etc

Bunker left of 17th green has had corner repaired

Bunker right of 17th green nearly finished just needs top turfs edged and new face brushed

Monday, 23 November 2009

Today we have started to rebuild the bunker right of the 17th green and repair sections on the bunker left of the 17th green
Bunker dug out and base levelled and firmed for new turf wall

As the course is closed today it meant we could try and burn the grass clippings collected from the rough, not sure how well this will work after the rain we have had.

More rain

Jobs today were to open course as we closed yesterday because of flooding, try cutting greens, aprons & rolling, raking bunkers , moving tee markers, emptying tee bins, finishing off putting out winter mats, finishing off greasing fairway mowers etc & cleaning mess room We tried to cut greens, roll greens & cut aprons but these jobs had to be abandoned because of more heavy rain and the mowers were starting to slide when turning

The soluble iron that was sprayed 2 days a go has darkened up the fairways

1st tee Craighead course

3rd tee Craighead course

4th fairway Craighead course

Cutting out the area for the sand, slabs & mat to go

the surrounding area has been re-turfed

Job complete we have done this on holes 5 & 17 as they are par 3 tees

Wednesday, 18 November 2009

Today we have been out spraying the back nine fairways with a soluble iron to help harden them up and add a little colour we use the foam bout marker on these areas to allow us to see what we have sprayed, other jobs today have been raking all the bunkers, moving tee markers, vibrate rolling greens and digging out areas next to tees 5 & 17 for winter mats to be placed these areas will be levelled with sand then slabs laid on top for a hard base, we have managed to raise and level 28 greens sprinkler heads so far this winter

Monday, 16 November 2009

The walkway to the 9th tee path is an area each year that we have to turf so this year we are trying turf at semi-rough height to see if it's better wearing, this area will be closed off to golfers and green staff till start of season

We are continuing to raise greens sprinklers and this one on the 18th green had to get the D valve replaced as it was worn and would not turn on or off with flag key

All tees were cut just before the rain started other jobs today were cutting greens with triple mower with no perimeter cut, rake all bunkers, raised 7 greens sprinklers, finished off cutting fairways which we never managed last week and re-turf worn area at the start of 9th tee path

Tuesday, 10 November 2009

Sprayed the greens & aprons with a liquid iron
We cut greens and aprons so we could spray behind

All the semi-rough has been cut at a height of 2 1/4" this week and should not need cut till mid December if required

We have now completed all our fairways with the slitter in 2 different directions

The fairways have all been done 2 ways

What's been happening this week

We have had new lights fitted in the workshop and paint room
7th greenside bunker on the Craighead course, which the face needs to be rebuilt and the bunker reshaped

Revetted face choked out with sand

Here's Nick and Rab half-way through building the revetted face

Bunker finished and will be G.U.R till next season to allow the turf to knit in

We have been raising low greens sprinkler heads on Craighead course and replacing the old heavy clay soil with sandy loam which will make it easier in the future for repairs

Other jobs this week were cutting greens 3 times twice with triple and once with hand mowers the days we never cut we used the dewy brushes to remove dew, changing holes, cutting tees this has been the first cut since we scarified and top-dressed, raking bunkers 3 times, divoting tees and slit tining fairways
