It's been a very busy time for the greenstaff setting up the Craighead course for the Battle trophy so early on in the season
Checking moisture levels over our greens, this helps us reduce water usage and concentrate on the high spots that dry out quicker
Great to have so many volunteers help the greenstaff divot fairways, this allows the staff to get to know our members and the members to ask about whats happening on their courses and why we do what we do etc
Setting up the courses for play
Nightmare came true, we had a hydraulic hose burst on our fairway mower on fairway 1 of the Balcomie course
To aid recovery from the oil damage, we applied liquid seaweed and fertiliser plus hand hosed the areas every couple of days
The Balcomie course greens having there Spring fertiliser applied as temperatures are on the up
Like the Craighead course, the Balcomie course has had all there tee plaques updated and renewed
It's that time of year for us to carry out essential aeration work to the Craighead course greens to improve the soil structure and reduce thatch levels, firstly the greens were mini-cored, verti-cut & cut to take out thatch
Then we have hired a machine in called the VGR top changer which injects sand into the profile to help open up the structure and dilute the thatch
We are hoping to inject about 20 tons of sand into the 18 greens to at least 75mm depth
Then the surfaces have been brushed
Next process is to over seed the surfaces, the mini-core holes are perfect for the seed to go into, then we will apply another 1 tons of sand per green to cover up all the seed and core holes
