The weather has not got any better with hard frosts then more rain, so jobs have been continue to cut gorse etc and trying to pump water out bunkers
Today has been the first chance we have had to cut greens, with the soft conditions we have raised the height of cut on the mowers

The guys back to working at the new 4th path on the Balcomie course

With all the turf re-used from tee 9 on the Balcomie course we can now start to rotovate and re- level this area

Tuesday, 19 January 2016

With the hard frosts lately and not wanting to cause damage to the courses its ideal to catch up on gorse management, the area the staff are tackling is the right hand side of the 18th on the Balcomie course, the gorse is getting cut back to about 2' then allowed to regenerate back into a bush instead of being tall and leggy

At last a break in the weather, well so I thought. Monday was a nice dry day which meant we could get back on to our winter projects on the Craighead course as it is on it's mid week closure, but on Tuesday more wind and heavy rain came
Plans were to get back to the 11th old wall area
Rebuilding the 2nd greenside (Rear) bunker

it is very rare to see water lying on areas on the Balcomie course, just proves how wet the last couple of months have been
The drainage work from last winter in front of tees 9 & 18 on the Craighead course has proved to be a big success, hopefully we will finish this area in the next couple of months weather pending
With the Craighead course being to wet to work at the old 11th wall, we changed plans to get back to the new 4th medal tee path on the Balcomie course as much drier to work at

This week the weather has been mostly stormy and wet

With the adverse weather and not wanting to cause damage on the courses, the staff have been busy in doors painting tee benches, ball washers etc and mixing soil
Today we had a break in the weather so we took this chance to get the greens cut and the courses tidied up for the weekend

With more rain forecast tomorrow, I thought I would do a trial with our verti-drainer at different depths on the 13th green on the Craighead course, to see the difference as this should help reduce the flooding we are seeing with this continuous rain that we have been getting since mid November

A Merry Christmas from all the staff at Crail Golfing Society

This week has been just a skeleton staff out to carry out the daily courses set up etc and we managed to complete the turfing at the new banks at our dump area at tee 12 on the Craighead course another job that was completed was to extend, re-turf and lay rubber matting at  the walkway to the 14th winter tee on the Balcomie course this will make this area neater and less chance of wear and tear
I was along helping out the Anstruther golf course this week, carrying out deep aeration to their greens

Both fairway bunkers completed on the Balcomie course

We are continuing to deep hollow core the putting green at the Clubhouse to help improve drainage and root depth, we only complete half the area each time to leave an area for play
With the weather being so wet it made sense to stay away from main playing areas and utilise old turf that we are striping from the 11th wall area and turf the banks round our dump area at tee 12 on the Craighead course
