Courses looking greener than usual at this time of year
We have been cutting back the gorse at the corner of the 2nd fairway on the Craighead course to allow better sight for your shot to the green
After the greens and surround on the Craighead course were cut we applied a Fungicide as we have had an out break of disease
Work has started on extending our material storage bays from 2 to 4 outside our shed

We have been out with the favourite machine of the members lol, cutting a couple of problem areas on the Balcomie course at hole 4
We had a broken swing joint on a sprinkler on tee 8 on the Balcomie course
We starting putting irrigation on last week when things were getting dry and very warm but things have turned wet again which is giving us problems of wet cuts and little bits of grass clippings left on our fairways and semi-roughs
On the Craighead course we have managed to apply another top-dressing of sand on our greens and surrounds after they were cut on Monday
Cracking day
Sand going on
Sand being rubbed in
The greens were then fertilised with 4.0.6 to help strengthen them up for the rest of the season

Our Apprentice Graham being shown how to use the turf iron
This week we have done some extra work to green 15 on the Balcomie course, we solid tined to 4" to relieve compaction and make holes for the seed, over seeded 2 ways, top-dressed with sand then rubbed in, this will will help us improve the grass species and surfaces, we are planning to target 1 green each month so not to interfere with play etc
Sign to inform the golfers/visitors of the work that has just been completed to green 15
Work is still ongoing at our dump area of building a perimeter bank and extending area
It was our monthly cleaning and blowing of the car parks and road/roundabout to the Clubhouse
Ongoing mowing to all playing surfaces
We have been out hand weeding our Balcomie course greens for daises etc
The Craighead greens have had an application of liquid fertiliser and iron to perk them up
This week I was lucky enough to get a tour of Kingsbarns Links with other local Greenkeepers to find out all the prep work for holding the Women's Open next month
After our course walk we had a tour of the local Kingsbarns Whiskey distillery

With the wet Summer we are having, it's meant we have had to spray our fairways and semi-roughs on the Balcomie course again to control daises. It's cost affective to hire in a local spray contractor to complete this work as they can spray the fairways and semi-roughs in 3 hours so not to be in the way of play and usually before the wind picks up
We are mostly getting wet or damp cuts at the moment, so the surfaces maybe a little slower than usual. The Balcomie greens and surrounds have had an application of fert and iron to keep them ticking over
It's all go setting up the courses for the Club Championship this weekend, hopefully we get some nice weather
