Spring fertiliser being applied to the Balcomie course greens and driving our allocation of beach sand for the bunkers
Fertiliser being washed in

Friday, 25 March 2016

It's that time of year to start applying our spring fertilisers , so we have cut all tees before applying our fertiliser on both courses
You can never get tired of the views here, Happy Easter
I attended a talk last night held by the BIGGA central section on 'Best fit for the environment' the speaker was Paul Miller (Lecturer from Elmwood College)
We seem to be getting more damage from badgers looking for food, we will be monitoring this situation

That's us started our wetting agent/seaweed program on the greens for the season and with it being dry this week it was a great chance to cut/clean and re shape the Craighead course bunkers for the start of the season
We are cutting most areas when required to keep the courses neat and tidy going into the season but we will not be at the full cutting program till going into May
We are still carrying out a few odd jobs for the season ie edging the driving range tee and painting the bay dividers and re-positioning them to help spread wear etc
Our last winter job is to build at teaching tee on the driving range for the Pro to carry out teaching and coaching on
Another odd job was to tickle up, re level and fill in any small pot holes in the driving range car park
That's us primed up our irrigation systems as we are starting to see surfaces drying up plus good to water new turf and be ready to water in our spring fertilisers etc in the next couple of weeks weather pending

What's with the delivery drivers this week, more damage, this time the wall at the 1st tee
This week was a big push to top-up newly built bunkers with fresh sand and any other bunkers on the Craighead course, other tasks were to finish off weeding/edging tee paths and continue to spray fairways etc with iron
Today sees the start of the season with the Captain vs Vice Captain on the Craighead course, so this week was a full cut on all areas and replace hole cups and flags, then next week will be the same for the Balcomie course

More sand being applied to the Balcomie tees
All the Balcomie course tee markers painted and the tee plaques resealed then painted
All the areas that was sprayed with iron have darkened up nicely
Not the best delivery driver in the world arrggh

With it being the last mid week winter closure we took this time to paint the 14th railway sleeper bunker plus the 14th tee path railing for the start of the season

Great weather to catch up on spraying greens, surrounds and fairways with soluble iron on the Balcomie course
Another light top-dressing of sand on the Balcomie course greens & surrounds. This week is the last mid week course closure before the start of the season, so other tasks are to re-turf worn areas at tee path ends and lay matting down, paint tee markers and tee posts and hopefully by the end of the week have the bunkers edged and weeded
The Balcomie course 1st tee entrance completed

Thursday, 3 March 2016

It's been a real busy week with the nice weather, so that's the new 4th path completed on the Balcomie course
The rubber matting will help reduce any wear and tear

One of the main entrances for our machinery on to the Craighead course plus tee path 14 has been re-turfed and matting laid
Cutting and collecting of deep rough has continued this week over both courses
Our road to the sheds has been re-graded and shaped to help the rain water run off and help reduce potholes

The Craighead course tees have been cut, divotted, top-dressed then verti-drained plus all greens, surrounds and tee sprinklers have been trimmed and cleaned out after they were top-dressed

The Craighead course greens and surrounds top-dressed and rubbed in
