The course looking green for this time of year
The guys busy cutting greens and fairways on the Balcomie course
With it being a wet summer we are finding weeds (mostly Daises) on the fairways are needing to be sprayed with a selective herbicide so we had the contractor out this morning spraying all the fairways on the Balcomie course and the problem fairways on the Craighead course
We have had a demo of a fairway mower brush attachment to help brush up the long ends etc on the fairways
The usual Friday afternoon job cut and clean the burn running across the Balcomie course
Verti-cutting is still on going to greens/surrounds and tees on the Balcomie course to help cut out long ends etc

A great day for double verti-cutting and cutting greens on the Balcomie course which I have been wanting to get done in the last couple of weeks but the courses were far to busy plus wet in the mornings
all the driving range banners replaced as they were looking very tired
the chicks have hatched and looking for food

This week it's been a 4am start with the Open being held at St Andrews and our courses are fully booked so it makes life so much easier starting early and keeping in front of play
the staff setting up the course for play
once the semi-roughs were cut we sprayed these areas with a selective herbicide as clover and daises are re appearing which I think is down to the wet/warm weather and the extra growth we are getting

Sunday and Monday was a big push to re instate all the bunkers and tee paths that were damaged from the torrential rain that we received on Saturday then once the sun came out we top-dressed the drainage lines on our 3rd fairway on the Craighead course
Work continues to tidy up and re shape area at the far end of the driving range
This morning we applied another application of growth regulator to the Balcomie course greens. Other tasks have been cutting all areas as these are growing harder since the rain last weekend and finish off lightly scarifying of the Balcomie fairways
It was great to be shown round the Old course prior to the Open next week

With the rain, thunder and lightening we have had this week it's kicked off the growth again so we have started to brush both sets of greens on alternative days to help keep on top of the growth as we can see the surface pace has slowed down
this week we concentrated on lightly scarifying certain fairways on the Balcomie course to help cut out any lateral growth and long ends before the fairways were cut, this will continue for the next 2/3 weeks
behind the scene their is always weekly machine maintenance that we try to keep up with
all bunkers over both the courses have been cut/cleaned/blown then raked today which was a great effort from the team to complete in a day
we have got a great hit with a selective herbicide on a weed called Pearwort which has affected certain surrounds on the Craighead course this year
another task was to clean/blow both Car parks, roundabout and entrance areas to the Clubhouse
