Since we are starting to get growth we are now starting our major aeration work to the Clubhouse putting green of deep hollow coring to take out the heavy soil and replace with sand this will help reduce flooding etc, this will be done in sections to allow continuous play through out the season
16mm hollow tines set at 8" depth
The Craighead greens were verti-cut then cut to help cut out any lateral growth plus smooth the surface off

This weekend we are holding the Battle Trophy which is a 72 hole Open strokeplay championship on the Craighead course, so we have been carrying out extra cutting to all areas plus turf ironing greens to help gain a smoother and faster surface, lets hope the wind does not get up too much
It's that time of year again when we are getting faults/leaks with our irrigation system mostly on the Balcomie course because of the systems age
the 7th wall all rebuilt and tidy
With the high winds we have been getting this week we are starting to notice old aeration holes/slits starting to open up on the putting surfaces which means time for a little water but not too much

Great weather today to be out cutting greens, surrounds & fairways and setting the courses up
We applied our 2nd application of wetting agent and seaweed behind the greens cutter on the Craighead course this morning
Marking out our out of bound areas
The wall at the 7th tees on the Balcomie course collapsed at the weekend

All bunkers on both courses have been cut/blown/cleaned then sand shaped
After all the drainage lines on the 3rd fairway of the Craighead course were seeded and filled with sand we top-dressed the whole area then it was rubbed in
I attended a talk at the European turfgrass laboratories in Stirling which consisted on how they process and analyse soils etc

After cutting the Balcomie course fairways we applied a granular fertiliser to the weaker fairways to help them through the season
After the greens were cut and holes changed we applied the start of our wetting agent and seaweed program
Work is still on going on the drainage lines on the Craighead course ie seeding then topping up the lines with sand
