This morning we had in a contractor helping us spray our fairways and semi-roughs with a selective weedkiller, we usually carry out this task in house but with the winds we have had this month it has left us behind in this task, other jobs were to spray greens on both courses with growth regulator/fert and iron, cutting all areas and watering high spots on greens etc

Monday 27 May 2013

We have been working on our turf nursery by replacing 60tons of soil, raking level then seeding, other jobs have been cutting all areas over both courses
Disaster on Saturday morning our greens mower had a hydraulic leak on greens 14, 16 & 17, we will just have to hold tight and see the what damage it has caused then take from there at the end of the week

Congratulations to the Fife team for winning the SGU area team championship in weather of heavy rain and high winds on Saturday to thich harr on Sunday morning
We have made a start to verti-cutting greens once they dried up from the heavy dew on the Craighead course, this will help cut out any lateral growth and help reduce thatch levels then they were cut with groomers on, other jobs on the Balcomie course - raked bunkers, cut greens, cut tees and divoted/emptied bins etc, collected balls and brought in the SGU furniture. Craighead course - raked bunkers, moved tee markers, divoted tees, started to spray bunker faces with growth regulator, start cutting the semi-rough, brought in the SGU furniture and Tam on machine maintenance after break
Yet another irrigation burst on the Balcomie course just another 2 to fix

Thursday 16 May 2013

That's us at full cutting now over both courses, we managed to spray wetting agent onto both sets of greens after the high winds at the start of the week
Today we were out cutting all fairways, cutting greens, cutting tees & divoting and raking bunkers then after break we cut surrounds which helps clean up any mess from the fairway mowers, other tasks were to set pins/white lining etc over both courses for the weekend as we are holding the Scottish golf union area team championships

Monday 13 May 2013

Today we were spiking greens on both courses to a depth of 1" to help relieve surface tension
The surface will be back to normal after a cut and also we cut the surrounds to clean up any spike marks, we were hoping to spray wetting agent/seaweed after the spiking but had to postpone with the high winds. other jobs were to cut the Balcomie course fairways that were left last week as we had sprayed a selective weed killer, raked bunkers, moved & divoted tees and started cutting semi-roughs.

Tuesday 7 May 2013

Summer is here at last, so we have been out fertilising greens on both courses with a 5.0.0 +2fe at half rate to help kick start the greens for the season, we watered in fertiliser behind and trimmed the sprinkler heads
Other jobs have been to start spraying the fairways on the Balcomie course with a selective weed killer as we suffer from daisies as we want to take advantage of the calm weather
This is the start of our junior coaching on a Tuesday night, so we have set up the 6 hole course on our driving range and at the same time we collected all the balls, cut the range, cut junior greens out and took the chance to spray selective weed killer as we have the range closed for this.

Saturday 4 May 2013

Today was setting up for our medal on the Craighead course which included cutting greens, changing holes, moving tee markers and raking all bunkers. On the Balcomie course we rolled greens, moved tee markers and raked bunkers
This week we have been hollow coring, seeding and top-dressing any weak or damaged areas from the flooding last year
With the welcomed rain yesterday it was a good chance to catch up with some machine maintenance and the re-positioning of our switch holders on all our cutting equipment
