Great success with our new drainage

The new drainage has been well tested in the last few days with great results on the Craighead course. With the wet weather we have had to stop work on tee 5 til it dries up, so we finished work to the 6th bunker that we drained a couple of weeks ago and added 5tons of sand

This week the Balcomie course is closed so we are making head way with 2 major jobs the new 18th tee path and re levelling of the 5th tee, all the existing turf from tee 5 has been utilised on the rebuilding of the bunkers before the Xmas break. On the Craighead course we are just raking bunkers and checking tee markers daily, also we have staff away down to Harrogate for the BIGGA greenkeeping show

Wednesday 15 January 2014

This week the Craighead course is on it's closure, so we have been out verti-draining the wetter fairways then on to cutting and collecting areas of deep rough

With the wet weather today we made a start on painting our broken tee pots. Other jobs have been setting up the Balcomie course each morning, reshaping the sand in our railway sleeper bunker on hole 14 and divoting fairways and tees

Wednesday 8 January 2014

After completing the solid tining to the greens we cut & turf ironed greens & surrounds then top-dressed them with 15tons of sand
All the Craighead course tees and walkways have been verti-drained to help relieve compaction
The 13th bunker has now been rebuilt
Balcomie course - We had our weekly medal on today so tasks were to cut & vibrate roll greens, change holes & set tee markers & rake all bunkers & check white lining round G.U.R. areas

Welcome to 2014

Back to full staff, so today we started to solid tine the Craighead greens to a depth of 65mm to help aid air and water movement

The 6th fairway bunkers are being drained into our new 6" pipe that runs the length of the west side of the Craighead course
Rebuilding the 13th greenside bunker on the Craighead course
As we are solid tining the greens it has gave us a chance to bring in the cups to wash and replace the liners
With having rain over the Christmas period, this was the first chance for us to see how the new drainage would perform and happy to report it's been a real success. Other jobs were to cut greens, rake bunkers, move and divot tees on the Balcomie course
